Kemosabe Wisdom is the best. Tom Yoder boils it all down for you in 5 words yet the book is entertaining throughout. I highly recommend this book to anyone running a business of any size. You will love it!
What I liked best about Yoder's book is that it applies to every business who has a customer. And that is all of us. He boils it down to what matters the most and how you maximize the longterm value of customer while still having fun. When you add the success formula with his homey way of writing and his focus on ethics, you have a book that everyone involved with customer service should read. I absolutely loved the book.

The humor is infectious, the honesty and passion evident, as his easy to read stories compell you to become a better person and astute professional who cares more about the process and less about results.
I picked up this book a few weeks ago at the Kemo Sabe store in Aspen, where I also bought my very first pair of cowboy boots. I actually didn't go in planning to buy anything, but it was such a great store - such fun people working there, and SO MANY cool boots - I just couldn't help it. When they told me that this book was all about the history of the store, and what they do now to make it so successful, I wanted to read more.
The root of how Kemo Sabe does business is to "Make the Customer Feel Important." Sounds so obvious, but most businesses don't seem to get that. In the book, the author (who's also the co-owner of Kemo Sabe) gives tons of real-life examples about how they do just that. It's hilarious at times - he really does have a lot of great stories. You almost forget you're reading a "business" book.
I don't own a store, but I think that I can apply a lot of the principles in this book to my own professional life. My favorite chapter was "You've Got to Stand for Something," which talks about why you shouldn't try to be everything to everyone. Again, it sounds obvious, but Yoder really does have a way of explaining WHY.
This is a very entertaining lesson in how to run a successful business while remaining true to your belief system and having the insight and courage to do right by your customers, employees, and vendors. The book is easy to read, and full of great stories that are easy to relate to and draw from. "Kemo Sabe Wisdom" should be required reading of new and seasoned retailers. My favorite quote from the book- "If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity, nothing else matters". That is a great credo for any business. It should be printed on currency, placed over school doors, athletic locker rooms, and if only a fraction of our public and private leaders would read it and take it to heart, our world would be an much better place. Great book!
